On 29th of September 2024 I attended my first national Axion Now event in London. I’ve heard about it from Alberto, of Alberto S. Ballesteros Illustration, by chance the week before and it was close enough to where I live to make the trip on short notice, and I am certainly glad that I did attend!

The event venue was nice with enough room for everyone to play, trade and sell. The staff were helpful, and the whole thing was so well organised that I was never bored or just waiting around for something to do. The best part of it for me was meeting Alberto, and the Magic artists; Chris Rallis, Véronique Meignaud, RK Post and Milivoj Ćeran.

Card collection from CommandFest London 2024.

I brought with me a selection of cards from each artist to get signed, and also purchased artist proofs with a sketch from Véronique and Milivoj. The artists were great to talk to, and if I had the room for it I would have gotten some prints to frame as well. I am definitely keen on attending future Magic conventions to meet more artists.

Other cards in my haul from the event included some regular purchases from traders, and two altered cards from Alt Art Cards. I also had one of my Jeweled Lotuses signed by PleasantKenobi who was at the event, because I was watching his videos about the recent Commander bans the day before.

Chris Rallis

Cards signed by Chris Rallis at CommandFest London 2024.

Signed Radiant, Serra Archangel, Massacre Girl and Zetalpa, Primal Dawn. I chose these cards because Massacre Girl is in my Orzhov reanimation deck, and I like Radiant and Zetalpa as cards, even if I struggle to find decks for them.

Véronique Meignaud

Signed full art Mountain, Forest and Island. The full art Plains is an artist proof with a sketch of an angel done at the event. I learned at the event that Véronique done art for some of the Zendikar Expeditions, which look amazing, but unfortunately I don’t own any of those.

RK Post

Cards signed by RK Post at CommandFest London 2024.

Signed Magister of Worth, Thought Vessel, Serra’s Liturgy and Lighting Angel. The Magister has been one of my favourite artworks and creatures since I got to play with in Conspiracy: Take the Crown, and I still love playing it in my EDH decks. It was cool to find out RK Post keeps track of some signed cards, my Thought Vessel is number 250, and the Lighting Angel is 336. I didn’t think to ask why these cards specifically, but maybe next time!

I also got a new playmat, signed by RK Post. I came across this artwork before when looking for playmats with angels but didn't know it was official Wizards art since it is not on any card. RK Post calls the artwork Bloodborne on his website, and shared with me that when Wizards commissioned it for an event playmat they asked for an angel like Avacyn but as a zombie, which I think is really cool! It will be right at home in my collection of Avacyn playmats.

Milivoj Ćeran

Signed War Room, Treasure token and Vanquisher’s Banner. I couldn’t find many cards with art from Milivoj that I own and play in my decks. The War Room, however, is in the Avacyn deck. Milivoj was really friendly when talking to him, so I felt inspired to buy an artist proof of the card (5/50) and get a sketch. I’ve asked for Avacyn standing over the war table, and Milivoj delivered such an amazing sketch that fits so well with the deck’s theme.

Alt Art Cards

Altered cards from Alt Art Cards.

Of all the altered cards that were for sale at the event I couldn’t find any for my Avacyn deck, but I have Mayael and Jenara decks so I got those because I like how they’ve done the extensions. Their online store has many extended cards for anyone who likes this style of alters.
